Learn how to make mooncakes (or yuèbĭng 月饼), an iconic sweet delicacy eaten during Mid-Autumn Festival to celebrate the year's harvest and gather with family!
*Please note that you'll be making 4 mooncakes (that can be baked onsite or must be refrigerated after the class and baked at home) and be served coffee, tea, and snacks to enjoy after the teaching session.*
Get hands-on in this fun and intimate class taught by Jennifer Yee, owner and baker of Bakers Bench, located in Chinatown. Born and raised in San Gabriel Valley, Jennifer has worked at multiple Michelin-starred kitchens across the country (The French Laundry, Jean-Georges, Gilt and more) and led the pastry program at Konbi before opening Bakers Bench, known for phenomenal vegan pastries. This year, we'll be hosting our 2nd annual class at her newly opened, beautiful brick-and-mortar space in Chinatown.
After a brief introduction and discussion about Mid-Autumn Festival and mooncakes, you'll master making mooncakes with a golden, crumbly crust with a black sesame almond filling. Throughout the class, you'll get expert tips on how to perfect the dough and fold in the black sesame filling. After the class, you'll have the option to stick around for an hour for us to bake your mooncakes or pack them to-go and bake at home. Coffee, tea, and small snacks will be served afterwards for you to mingle with your classmates!
You'll have the chance to shop our "marketplace" of goodies from Rooted Fare and ready-to-eat pastries from Bakers Bench and contribute to the senior mooncake "fund" to serve seniors in Chinatown homemade mooncakes.
We'll provide everything, so just bring yourself and your curiosity!
