This lava toast is a fun way to level up your French toast! The black sesame adds nutty and toasty flavors, while TWRL Milk Tea’s hojicha milk tea balances it with its subtle sweetness and earthy notes. Texturally, this toast is amazing: light, fluffy, and chewy, thanks to the yummy store bought brioche and TWRL’s instant boba packets.
Change up the flavor by using TWRL’s different teas, such as their black milk tea, ube milk tea, and jasmine pu’erh!

Ingredients
For the French Toast
- 8 slices bread, we used brioche
-
4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
-
4 tbsp Black Sesame Crunchy Butter
-
2 eggs
-
4 tbsp butter
For the topping
- Powdered sugar, for sifting
- ½ cup heavy cream
-
2-4 tbsp powdered sugar, adjust to taste
-
2 tbsp Black Sesame Crunchy Butter
Directions
For the French Toast
Grab one slice of bread and spread on ½ tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk and 1 tablespoon Black Sesame Crunchy Butter.
Place second slice of bread on top.
Spread ½ tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk on top of the bread stack.
In a deep dish large enough to fit your bread, whisk two eggs together.
Pour entire can of TWRL Milk Tea into the eggs and mix until fully combined.
Into a frying pan, add one tablespoon butter and turn heat to medium.
Once the pan is hot and the butter is melted, dip bread stack into the milk tea egg mixture, about 3-5 seconds each side.
Cook French toast in pan until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per side.
Repeat steps 1-7 for the remaining slices of bread. You can keep the cooked French toast on a sheet pan in a warm oven while you make the topping.
For the topping
In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and Black Sesame Crunchy Butter until thickened but still moveable. If it is too thick, stir in a splash of heavy cream at a time until it loosens up.
Heat TWRL Milk Tea’s Brown Sugar Boba Pack according to package instructions.
Add one French toast to your plate. Use a spoon to slightly push in the middle of the toast so you have a little crater for the black sesame cream.
Lightly dust powdered sugar on top of the French toast.
Spoon in the black sesame cream, then top with boba. Enjoy!
Recipe Note
Store the cooked French toast separately from the topping in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freezer for 1 month. We recommend making the toppings the day they will be eaten. This is because the cream will loosen and the boba will harden over time.
