Looking for something fancy, homemade, but low effort to bring to a potluck? This banana pudding pie with a black sesame twist is totally unique, easy, and not-too-sweet.
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup all-purpose flour
Pinch of salt
3 large egg yolks
1.5 cups milk, divided (plant-based okay)
2 tbsp Black Sesame Crunchy Butter
1 tbsp unsalted butter
12-15 vanilla wafers
2 bananas, sliced
Pre-made graham cracker pie crust
Crushed wafers for garnish, optional
Black sesame seeds for garnish, optional
1 cup whipped cream, cold
2 tbsp sugar
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, and salt.
Add egg yolks and half the milk and mix until smooth.
In a medium saucepan, heat remaining milk over medium heat until tiny bubbles form around the edges.
Slowly pour ¾ of the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture and whisk until combined.
Transfer the mixture back into the pan with remaining milk and whisk. Cook for 5-10 min or until pudding has thickened on medium low heat.
Remove from heat and stir in Black Sesame Crunchy Butte and butter.
To make the whipped cream, pour in the whipped cream and sugar in a medium mixing bowl and use a handheld mixer to whip the cream until stiff peaks.
In the bottom of the pre-made pie crust, put in a layer of sliced bananas, then wafers, and finally black sesame pudding.
Top with whipped cream and garnish with wafer crumbs and black sesame seeds.
