It's so hard to find delicious black sesame ice cream in the average grocery store, so why not give it a shot yourself? This easy (and we mean really easy), no-special-equipment-required recipe is made with our Black Sesame Crunchy Butter, created by our immigrant chef partner, Wenling (文玲).
The Black Sesame Crunch Butter is based on one of China’s most well-known desserts, Tangyuan (汤圆). It’s usually eaten on Chinese New Year with family to symbolize togetherness on Chinese New Year.

Homemade Black Sesame Ice Cream
Prep: 5 min
Cook: 4 hours or overnight
1.5 cup cold heavy cream
1 (14-oz) can cold sweetened condensed milk, we use a delicious brand called Longevity from TS Emporium
6 tbsp Black Sesame Crunchy Butter
- In a mixer, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form. Slowly pour condensed milk and whip until stiffer peaks form.
- Add Black Sesame Crunchy Butter (or swirl in to get a “marble” pattern)
- Transfer into a container and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight.
